This Service Bulletin replaces the previous SB 86-0012 dated July 2002, which should be discarded. The Operation Number has been changed into two new Operation Numbers.

Replacing the potentiometer for the rear locking arm and convertible top

Background

This Service Bulletin describes how to replace the potentiometers in the Cabriolet system.





Materials

Potentiometer, replacing

Removing the potentiometer, rear locking arm 1

Caution!
Removed potentiometers must not be reinstalled. Their function cannot be guaranteed due to play between the turning plate in the potentiometer and the shaft.

Ignition on.





Set the cover in the position illustrated.

Note!
The rear latch must be in the mechanical limit position. Use Volvo System Tester (8.bodywork/convertible top control module/diagnostic test/ activating/menu for motors/rear latch) to obtain this position.

The potentiometer is located on the rear locking arm, left-hand side.

Remove:

- the connector

- one Allen screw.

NOTE:
Note the position of the potentiometer housing in relation to the rear latch.

Carefully pull the potentiometer off the shaft.

Caution!
It is important that the potentiometer is installed on the shaft straight. Use the screw off the potentiometer as a guide. The potentiometer is indexed and must not be rotated or modified.

Install:

- the potentiometer

- one Allen screw, tighten

- the connector

The potentiometer must be calibrated after replacement. See VADIS: "Programming and calibrating the convertible system."

Caution:
Removed potentiometers must not be reinstalled. Their function cannot be guaranteed due to play between the turning plate in the potentiometer and the shaft.

Ignition on.





Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.

Note!
The convertible top must be in the lowered/open position. Use Volvo System Tester (8.bodywork/convertible top control module/diagnostic test/ activating/menu for motors/rear latch) to obtain this position.

Remove:





- the connector

- one Allen screw.

Note!
Note the position of the potentiometer housing in relation to the linkage.

Carefully pull the potentiometer off the shaft. Leave the potentiometer connected to the wiring until the new potentiometer is installed.

Caution!
It is important that the potentiometer is installed on the shaft straight. Use the screw of the potentiometer as a guide. The potentiometer is indexed and must not be rotated or modified.

Install:

- the potentiometer

- one Allen screw, tighten.

Route the cable provisionally.

Connect the connector.





Set the convertible top to the position illustrated. 7

Caution!
Check that the wiring is not trapped or pinched.

Disconnect the connector.

Remove the original tie straps and the original potentiometer.

Clamp the new potentiometer cable in position.

Fasten cable with new tie straps.

Connect the connector.

The potentiometer must be calibrated after replacement.
