AA. General Safety Information

AAA. Ignition And High Tension Components

Switch off ignition before:
Connecting and disconnecting test instruments
Connecting and disconnecting connectors.
Taking readings using an ohmmeter.
Dangerous voltages are present at all points in the system, including connectors etc.

WARNING! The ignition system operates at high power and voltages. It is dangerous to come in contact with the high tension circuit - the ignition coil, spark plug caps and distributor cap.

CAUTION! Avoid sparking when working on the fuel system, especially when checking the injectors.

AAB. During Trouble-Shooting/Repairs

NOTE! The hood has to be in the down position when deploying the roll bars.

WARNING! When working with the ROPS system the ignition must be off and the battery's negative lead disconnected, unless otherwise instructed. Carefully follow the instructions in the procedure section. To avoid unintentional activation of the roll bar when working with the system, it should be deployed using the Volvo System Tester or manually, as described in CBA3 replacement of roll bar cartridge. Take care to avoid personal injury; make sure nobody is standing over the roll bar when it is deployed using the Volvo System Tester.

AAC. After Fault-Tracing /Repair

When all components have been reinstalled:
Ignition on.
Connect battery negative lead.

AAD. Battery

When testing components it is very important that the battery voltage is normal (approximately 12 V). If necessary a battery charger can be connected during the test.

Connect battery charger to battery terminals. Charge the battery for 10 hours at the recommended charge current, but not higher than 6 A.

Example: If the battery is marked 520 A the recommended charge current is 0.01 x 520 + 5.2 A. A higher than recommended charge current can damage the battery.

NOTE: Boost charging (with a high current or voltage above 16 V) will damage the battery and is prohibited.

WARNING! The ignition system operates at high voltage. Smoking, welding, grinding or other activities involving sparks or naked flames are prohibited in the vicinity of a charging battery. Charge the battery in a well ventilated area.

AAE. Safety Regulations When Working With ROPS

WARNING! The roll bar is deployed by means of a spring, the force of which is sufficient to cause injury. It is therefore important to ensure that nobody is standing close to the roll bar when it deploys. The roll bar is approximately 50 cm (20 inch) high so you should stay at least this far away from the bar for safety reasons.

CAUTION! Replace the whole cartridge if there is a fault on the roll bar. Do not repair the cartridge.
