Background
A number of 2000 model year S70/V70/C70 automatic transmission, two-wheel drive, 5-cylinder turbo equipped engines have been equipped with an incorrect diagnostic software package. The incorrect software presents a risk that the diagnostic system will not provide the driver with adequate information about abnormal emissions levels.

Downloading software
Download new software according to the description in VADIS.

Attaching the emissions recall label
Attach the emissions recall label on the inside rear of the driver's side front door adjacent to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards label (FMVSS). See following steps.

Position the label above the FMVSS label.

Position the label to the left of the FMVSS label.

Proof of Correction Certificate (CA-registered vehicles only)
Owners of vehicles registered in California must be given a Proof of Correction certificate. This certificate indicates that RECALL 97 has been performed. This certificate should be retained with other important vehicle documents. Retailers located in states bordering California will also be supplied with Proof of Correction certificates to cover any California registered Volvo they service for this Emission Recall.
