Removal and Replacement
Replacing the throttle body (electronic throttle module)
Note! Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.
Removing
Disconnect the negative battery lead. Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting
Remove the dipstick tube.
Removing the throttle body
Slacken off the hose clip for the charge air pipe on the throttle body.
Detach the charge air pipe from the throttle body.
Remove:
- the intake manifold between the front and the air cleaner (ACL) housing
- the 4 x screws holding the engine cooling fan (FC) shroud.
Push the shroud slightly to one side, pull up the relay holder and pull the connectors for the engine cooling fan (FC) apart.
Remove:
- the charge air hose from the charge air cooler
- hoses and cables from their holders
- the engine cooling fan relays, x 2, from the fan shroud by bending the relays into the engine compartment and pulling upwards.
Open the tie strap for the cables.
Remove:
- the connectors with holders on both sides of the fan shroud
- the evaporative emission system (EVAP) valve from the engine cooling fan (FC) shroud
- the fan with shroud.
Caution! The cable to the throttle body must not be cut off. The throttle body may need to be returned complete.
If the electrical cable to the throttle body is behind the bracket for the starter motor:
Undo the 2 x nuts.
Remove the screw.
Remove any tie straps and disconnect the connector for the throttle body.
Route the cable for the throttle body from the rear side of the bracket for the starter motor.
Remove the 4 x screws for the throttle body.
Installing
Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque, B5234T9 Tightening Torque
Installing the throttle body
Install:
- the new throttle body with a new gasket
- the screws, 4 x to contact.
Position the cable for the throttle body behind the bracket for the starter motor.
Install the screw in the cylinder block.
Tighten the nuts x 2 and the screw.
Install the connector and tie strap.
Note! If the cable was not behind the bracket for the starter motor the cable must be connected along the cable duct using two tie straps.
Raise the car.
Remove the splashguard under the engine
Tighten the 4 x screws for the throttle body.
Lower the car.
Install:
- the fan shroud with the screws, x 4
- the holder for the connector before the lower screw on the fan shroud (vehicle's) left hand side. Tighten the lower screws. Thread the 2 x upper screws
- the fan connectors
- the engine cooling fan relays in the holder
- the evaporative emission system (EVAP) valve to the engine cooling fan shroud
- the connector and holder on the right hand side of the engine cooling fan shroud
- the tie strap around the cables
- the hoses and cables in their clips/holders
- the charge air hose for the charge air cooler
- the relay holder, tighten the upper screws.
Installing the charge air pipe
Install the charge air pipe on the throttle body.
Tighten the hose clip for the charge air pipe on the throttle body.
Install:
- the dipstick tube
- the intake manifold between the front and the air cleaner housing.
Turn the ignition key to position 2.
Connect the negative battery lead. Refer to: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting
Ordering and downloading software
Note! After reprogramming the ETM the ECM must also be upgraded.
Order the software for ETM reprogramming and program the new control module according to the table below
Order the software for ECM gasoline upgrading and program the control module according to the table below.
Finishing
Carry out a function check.
Set the clock.
