Recall Notice to Owner: Overview
IMPORTANT RECALL NOTICE
December 1999
Dear Volvo Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
The reason for this campaign:
Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. has found a number of 2000 model year S70, V70, and C70 vehicles, with automatic transmission, two-wheel drive, and 5-cylinder turbo engines, that have been equipped with an incorrect emissions diagnostic software package.
The incorrect software presents a risk that the diagnostic system may not provide the driver with adequate information about abnormal hydrocarbon evaporative emissions. If that condition occurs, the check engine light on the dash panel may not illuminate and emissions exceeding applicable standards may go undetected. The driveability of your Volvo is not affected.
In all affected vehicles, the diagnostic software will be reprogrammed.
What you need to do:
^ Please call your authorized Volvo Retailer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. This procedure will be completed at no cost and will take approximately 1 hour. Due to service scheduling, your Volvo Retailer may require your vehicle for a full business day.
If you have trouble getting your vehicle repaired or there are questions your retailer is unable to answer, you may phone Volvo Customer Service, 1-800-458-1552, Monday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Eastern Time.
For vehicles registered in California:
If your vehicle is registered in California, your authorized Volvo Retailer will give you a Proof of Correction certificate indicating that Volvo Emissions Recall 97 has been performed. Please retain this certificate with other important vehicle materials. The California Department of Motor Vehicles may not renew your vehicle registration if their records indicate that this emissions recall was not performed; it would then be necessary for you to submit the Proof of Correction certificate in order to renew your registration.
