Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair






Replacing stop (brake) light switch later type

Preparations
- Check that the ignition is switched off.
- Remove soundproofing.

Removing




- Depress brake pedal and lock it in the depressed position with a pedal jack.
- Press stop (brake) light switch housing forward towards the pedal mounting bracket to release the white locking sleeve.
- Pull the white locking sleeve towards the tip of the stop (brake) light switch as far as it will go.
- Push in stop (brake) light switch catches and remove switch.
- Disconnect connector.

Check




Check the new stop (brake) light switch to ensure:
- that the white locking sleeve is pulled out towards the tip of the stop (brake) light switch as far as it will go.
- that the catches are not in contact with the white locking sleeve.

Installing





Note! Brake pedal must be depressed.

- Connect the connector.
- Install stop (brake) light switch. Check location of switch in bracket.
- Press stop (brake) light switch into place. There is a distinct click when the catches engage with the bracket.
- Remove pedal jack.

- Carefully pull up brake pedal to its highest position. The stop (brake) light switch will then adjust itself automatically.
- Shake (do not pull) the stop (brake) light switch lightly and check that it is secure.

- Check that the stop (brake) lights is working.
- In cars with automatic transmission and shift-lock, check that shift-lock is working.
- Reinstall soundproofing.
