Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators: Testing and Inspection
Special tools: 981 9190, 981 3194
AAA1 Connecting the Breakout Box to the Combined Instrument Panel:
- Ignition off.
- Expose combined instrument panel according to DDB. Replacing the Combined Instrument Panel. [1][2]Procedures
- Disconnect combined instrument panel.
- Check that the male and female terminals in the combined instrument panel and cable harness connectors are intact and secure and that the wiring to the female terminals is properly attached to the terminal.
- Check the terminals relevant to the diagnostic trouble code (DTC)/symptom especially well.
Connect adapter 981 3194 to combined instrument panel connectors A and B and connect the breakout box 981 3190 to adapter.
Then continue with: AAA2
AAA2 Checking Ground Terminals:
- Ignition off.
- Switch off all equipment that takes power from the battery (courtesy lighting, radio etc).
Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and:
# 15 (# A15).
# 17 (# A17) on the breakout box.
The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 Ohms for all readings
If reading is OK: Return to the fault-tracing procedure where it was interrupted.
If reading is incorrect: AAA3.
AAA3 Checking for an Open-Circuit:
Check ground terminals 31/50 and 31/51 in the central electrical unit and their wiring for an open-circuit according to ZA2, and contact resistance and oxidation according to ZA5. Check ground lead between central electrical unit and chassis for an open-circuit according to ZA2, and contact resistance and oxidation according to ZA5.
Then continue with: AAA4.
AAA4 Verification:
NOTE: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off.
- Combined instrument disconnected
- Switch off all equipment that takes power from the battery (courtesy lighting, radio etc).
Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and:
# 15 (# A15)
# 17 (# A17) on the breakout box.
The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 Ohms for all readings
If reading is OK: Fault corrected
If reading is incorrect: AAA5.
AAA5 Fault-Tracing Information:
The fault should now have been diagnosed and corrected. Since this is not the case the fault-tracing has failed.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes: Fault not corrected.
No: AAA1.
