Checking the fuel gauge sensor




- Ignition off
- Drain the fuel tank
- Turn the instrument lighting rheostat to maximum position.
Fill up a measured amount of fuel according to one of the options below, and check the resistance of the fuel gauge sensor.
Check the fuel gauge sensor connector. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.





If necessary, replace the fuel gauge sensor.

Adjustment of fuel level value
Normally the fuel warning light should be turned on when the fuel level is 8 liters. Click on the VCT 2000 symbol to start the calibration.
The top field displays the current calibration; if none has been done 0 is displayed. If the fuel warning light is lit at too low a level, for example 6 liters, then select +2 in the list.
If the fuel warning light is lit at too high a level, for example 10 liters, select -2 in the list. This method can be used to correct a deviation of no more than 2 liters from the actual value.

Hint: After the repair it is necessary to check that the fault has been rectified.








- Ignition off
- Connect connector, install components etc.
- Ignition on.
Fill up an additional quantity of fuel to turn off the fuel warning light, at least 12 liters (3 gallons) is required to turn off the light.
Wait for 1 minute.
Slowly drain the fuel, no more than 1 liter (1/4 gallon) should be drained per minute.
Check if the fuel warning light is lit when the fuel level is 8 liters (2 US gallons, 1.75 imperial gallons).

Is function OK?

Yes - VERIFIED

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
