Removal and Replacement






Replacing receiver / drier or suction pipe

Special tools:
999 5474 RADIATOR PROTECTION 999 5474 Radiator Protection
999 5472 KEY 5/8" 999 5472 Key 5/8"

Before starting work on the receiver / drier or suction pipe

Warning! Follow the safety instructions for work on air conditioning (A/C) systems. See Refrigerant, safety regulations Refrigerant, Safety Regulations.

Note! First read the instructions covering slow and fast leaks.

Note! When replacing a receiver / drier always replace O-rings in pipes and quick-release connectors.

Note! Always plug pipes and connectors when working on the climate control system.

Removing receiver / drier or suction pipe

Preparations




- First read section Before starting work on the receiver / drier or suction pipe
- Disconnect the battery negative lead
- Drain the refrigerant from the system. See Refrigerant, overview Refrigerant, Overview and Emptying/vacuum pumping/filling with refrigerant Emptying/Vacuum Pumping/Filling With Refrigerant
- Remove the fresh air intake for the control module box.

Removing receiver / drier or suction pipe




- Disconnect the quick-release connector for the evaporator by the receiver / drier using a quick-release connector tool 999 5472 KEY 5/8" 999 5472 Key 5/8"
- Unscrew the receiver / drier bracket screw.





- Raise the car
- Remove the air baffle between the spoiler and the frame member
- Disconnect the pipe coupling for the compressor (the suction pipe)
- Remove the receiver / drier, suction pipe and bracket by lifting it where it is hooked into the side member
- Remove the receiver / drier and suction pipe from the bracket

When replacing suction pipe:
- remove the suction pipe from the receiver / dryer.

Note! Note the position of the suction pipe relative to the receiver / drier.

Installing receiver / drier or suction pipe

When replacing receiver / drier:
- first read section Before starting work on the receiver / drier or suction pipe
- fill the new receiver / drier with new oil. Also see
- transfer the suction pipe from the old receiver / drier to the new one. Tighten to: 30 Nm.

Note! Note the position of the suction pipe relative to the receiver / drier.

When replacing suction pipe:
- first read section Before starting work on the receiver / drier or suction pipe
- fill the new suction pipe with new oil. Also see
- install the suction pipe onto the receiver / dryer. Tighten to: 30 Nm.

Note! Install the suction pipe in the same position noted when it was removed.

Installing the receiver / drier or suction pipe, common operations
- Install the receiver / drier and suction pipe on the bracket
- Install the receiver / drier and suction pipe with the bracket on the side member
- Install the quick-release connector for the evaporator at the receiver / drier
- Install compressor pipe coupling. Tighten to: 25± 6 Nm
- Fill the system with refrigerant. See Refrigerant, overview Refrigerant, Overview and Emptying/vacuum pumping/filling with refrigerant Emptying/Vacuum Pumping/Filling With Refrigerant. Check for leaks
- Install the air baffle
- Install fresh air hose on the control module box
- Install the battery negative lead.
