Removing the flywheel/carrier plate
Remove the transmission
- Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
- Remove the flywheel/carrier plate. Use gear sector: 999 5112.
Replacing the seal
- Remove the old seal using extractor 999 5919.
Note! Ensure that the mating surfaces are not damaged.
- Clean off any thread sealant residue from the area around crankshaft flange.
- Lubricate the seal mating surface to the holder and seal lips.
- Thread the seal onto the beveled section of the inner drift with the felt side of the seal outwards.
- Install the drift on the crankshaft.
- Tap in the seal with the outer drift and handle 999 1801.
The seal is in position when the outer drift bottoms out against the inner drift.
Installing the flywheel/carrier plate
- Install the flywheel/carrier plate. Use gear sector: 999 5112 and special screws: 999 5676.
- Ensure that the crankshaft flange and flywheel mating surfaces are completely clean.
- Install the 3 studs with the spacing as illustrated. Turn the short thread length towards the crankshaft.
- Install the flywheel.
Note! Check that the locating pin on the crankshaft is positioned opposite the hole in the flywheel. There is a marking to show the position of the guide hole.
- Locate gear sector: 999 5112.
- Pull the flywheel towards the crankshaft with the three nuts for tool: 999 5678. The turned section of the nut must be turned towards the flywheel.
Note! It is important that the flywheel bears on the crankshaft flange before the other screws are installed.
- Install the other screws. Use new screws. Tighten crosswise to 45 Nm.
- Replace the three special screws with new standard screws. Tighten crosswise to 45 Nm.
- Then angle-tighten all 10 screws crosswise: 65°.
- Ensure that the flywheel sensor and bracket are installed.
Install the clutch driven plate and clutch.
The following applies to automatic transmissions:
Install the carrier plate.
Tighten to 45 Nm. Angle tighten 50°.
Installing the transmission
Install the transmission.
Test driving
Checking the engine:
Check the function of the engine and the transmission: Test drive the car.
Check the engine compartment and wipe clean.
Ensure that the steering wheel and the gear selector lever are clean.
