Replacing Engine Cooling Fan (FC) Fusible Link Cable
Replacing engine cooling fan (FC) fusible link cable
Removing engine cooling fan (FC)
The fusible link cable was introduced on model year -93 as a replacement part to the engine cooling fan (FC) on 850 cars. This is a general description. (Some engine variants and certain markets do not have the components listed below).
Note! Make note of radio code.
Remove:
- battery negative lead
- upper charge air pipe from charge air cooler (CAC) (turbocharger (TC))
- air intake and inlet hose connected to air cleaner (ACL).
- canister purge (CP) valve connector
- canister purge (CP) valve hose
- four screws for engine cooling fan (FC) cover.
- air duct connecting to the control module box.
- connectors for the fan (bend shroud back slightly).
- hoses at intake manifold and the EGR valve (bend shroud back slightly).
- fan shroud spacers
- fan and shroud.
Cover radiator with protective panel 999 5474 RADIATOR PROTECTION 999 5474 Radiator Protection.
Dismantling cable duct
Remove:
- solenoid cover.
- cable duct upper section as far as possible.
Check for damage to cables in the duct. Replace the red ( 5 mm2 ) fusible link cable and repair other damaged cables.
Removing fusible link cable
Remove:
- cable from starter motor.
- tie strap by cutting it off.
- the red ( 5 mm2 ) cable from the corrugated cable sleeve. Cut the cable as close to the cable duct possible.
- the damaged cable from the cable duct.
- the cable connector from the terminal above the radiator (see small illustration).
Installing a new fusible link cable in the cable duct
Install:
- New cable (routed in the same way as the old one).
Note! Ensure that the entire cable is inside the cable duct. Otherwise the duct cannot be closed. Loop excess cable inside the duct.
- Cable connector to terminal above radiator.
- Cable to starter motor and tighten. Tighten to 20 Nm
- Solenoid cover.
Reinstalling engine coolant fan (FC)
Install:
- engine cooling fan (FC) and shroud
- fan shroud spacers
- relay mounting and fan control (FC) connector
- EGR valve vacuum hoses (yellow to EGR valve and white to intake manifold).
- four screws holding engine cooling fan (FC) shroud.
- air duct to control module box.
- canister purge (CP) valve
- hose and connector to canister purge (CP) valve.
- air intake and intake hose to air cleaner (ACL).
- upper charge air pipe on charge air cooler (CAC) (turbocharger (TC))
- cable on battery negative terminal.
- enter radio code if anti-theft coded radio installed.
- Erase diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 3-2-5 in the engine control module (ECM) (turbocharger (TC)).
