Replacing sealing strips around door opening and rear side window
Special tools:

Replacing door opening sealing strip
Removing door opening sealing strip
Remove:
- front and rear door sill mouldings (C) by pulling them upwards.
- rear side window, as described in Removing rear side window outer strip.
- sealing strip by pulling it off.
Note! The strip is both taped and pressed around door opening.
Hint: If the strip is stuck it can be heated carefully using a hot air pistol.
Preparations before installing door opening sealing strip
Note! Both strip and vehicle should be at room temperature.
Note! The surface to which the strip is to be glued must first be cleaned free from dirt and grease.
Remove any remaining adhesive or tape using diluted isopropyl. One part of isopropyl should be mixed with one part of water for best result.
Warning! Avoid skin contact, use protective gloves and protective goggles. Allow for adequate ventilation.
Mask with 7 or 9mm (0.27"-0.35") masking tape around door opening as shown in figure.
Masking should be 7-9mm (0.27"-0.35") from edge (C), see figure.
Sand surface where strip was, using 1000- or 1200 grain sand-paper, as shown by shaded part of figure.
Clean dust from surface with diluted isopropyl. One part of isopropyl should be mixed with one part of water for best result.
Warning! Avoid skin contact, use protective gloves and protective goggles. Allow for adequate ventilation.
Do not remove masking tape from rear-view mirror downwards during installation.
Installing door opening sealing strip
Install:
- strip in upper rear corner by pressing strip on to flange. Continue around entire door opening.
Note! Strip must start right inside the corner to ensure a good fit is maintained.
- front and rear door sill mouldings.
Check that a good fit is maintained.
Gently tap around door opening with a rubber hammer or similar so that sealing strip seats correctly.
Adjust strip using a pressure tool 981 4071 STRAIGHTENING TOOL 981 4071 Straightening Tool.
Rear part of door strip must fit with rear side window inner strip.
Distance between edge and strip (A)should be approximately 9mm (0.35") and (B) approximately 7mm.
Note! Make sure there is a straight line along the body.
Caution! It is important that pressure is applied to the strip to ensure the tape makes full contact with the body.
Remove one piece of protective tape at a time on new strip and press strip firmly in place.
Cut off 2 pieces of old strip and place them on front side window, as shown in figure. Raise window so that extra pressure is put on strip.
Lower window after approximately 10 mins. and remove strips from window.
Install rear side window in reverse order, as described in Removing rear side window outer strip.
Replacing rear side window inner strip
Removing rear side window inner strip
Remove:
- rear side window, as described in Removing rear side window outer strip
- sealing strip by pulling it off.
Installing rear side window inner strip
Use same strip if possible.
Install strip in upper rear corner by pressing strip on to flange. Continue around entire window opening.
Gently tap around window opening with a rubber hammer or similar so that sealing strip seats correctly.
Upper front part of strip must fit with door strip.
Adjust strip using a pressure tool 981 4071 STRAIGHTENING TOOL 981 4071 Straightening Tool.
Install rear side window in reverse order, as described in Removing rear side window outer strip.

Remove:
- B-panel as described in Replacing panels Replacing Panels
Note! New sound-proofing mats over the holes in the B pillar when installing.
- spring pin in link from rear side window lock.
- 2 nuts on rear side window front fixing.
Note! Be careful not to let nuts fall down into B pillar.
Hint: Put some butyl or similar into guide to retain nuts.

Removing rear side window outer strip

Installing rear side window outer strip
Start by installing strip in lower rear corner. Outer and inner strips must fit with each other.
Check strip fits correctly with body and window opening.
Remove one piece of protective tape at a time in lower rear corner on new strip and press strip firmly in place.
Continue by installing upper front corner strip and finish with lower part of window opening.
Check strip fits correctly with body and window opening.
Note! Make sure there is a straight line along the body.
Caution! It is important that pressure is applied to the strip to ensure the tape makes full contact with the body.
Take off one piece of protective tape at a time on remaining part of new strip and press strip firmly in place.
Install rear side window in reverse order, as described in Removing rear side window outer strip.
Replacing trim strip in metal
Removing trim strip in metal
Remove trim strip by pulling it off.
Note! Be careful not to damage enamel when removing strip.
Installing trim strip in metal
Note! Both strip and vehicle should be at room temperature.
Clean the inside of the strip with Cleaner H (component number 1161436-9).
Coat rear side of strip with primer (component number 1161516-8).
Start by installing strip in rear edge.
Remove one piece of protective tape at a time on sealing strip and press strip firmly in place, if new strip has been installed.
Note! Make sure there is a straight line along the body.
Caution! It is important that pressure is applied to the strip to ensure the tape makes full contact with the body.
Replacing fabric strip

Remove rear side window as described in Removing rear side window outer strip
Pull fabric away from rubber strip.
Installing the fabric strip
Clean the surface of the rubber strip with diluted isopropyl. One part of isopropyl should be mixed with one part of water for best result.
Warning! Avoid skin contact, use protective gloves and protective goggles. Allow for adequate ventilation.
Note! Always use new fabric strip when installing.
Start at top and install fabric strip.
Be careful when positioning fabric strip.
Install rear side window in reverse order, as described in Removing rear side window outer strip.
