Replacing the wires

Replacing the drive wire for the front lock
Removing the drive wire for the front lock
Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Ignition off.
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Remove:
- the cover for the front lock motor in the convertible top
- the connector
- the 2 nuts for the bracket for the front lock motor
- the drive wire secured with a spline joint.
Angle the motor and pull the drive wire from the locking.
Remove:
- the textile outer roof at the front edge of the convertible top
- the cover on the front cross member
- the tie straps holding the wiring and securing the drive wire
- the connector for the front micro-switch. Move the connector out of the way.
Note! Check that the locking arm is in the same position throughout the operation.
Pull out the wire through the front cross member and point the wire forwards.
Remove the drive wire secured with a spline joint.
Replace the drive wire.
Installing the drive wire for the front lock
Note! Check that the locking arm is in the same position throughout the operation.
Install:
- the drive wire
- use new tie straps for the wire and wiring
- the connector for the front and rear micro-switches
- the drive wire in the locking
- the 2 nuts for the front lock motor.
Test the function of the drive wires.
Install the cover at the front edge of the front cross member.
Carefully fold back the textile outer roof and secure it at the front cross member.
Install the cover for the front lock motor in the convertible top.

Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Ignition off.
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Mark up the position (using a marker pen) of the lock according to Preparations before work Preparations Before Work.
Remove:
- the 3 screws for the lock side piece on both the left and right-hand lock side pieces
- the tie straps on the left and right-hand sides
- the connectors and micro-switches on the left and right-hand sides according to Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
- the 2 screws for the cover plate lock on both the left and right-hand locks.
Release the strut so that it is in neutral position.
Move the cog half towards the catch section. Lift the catch section and slide the cog half forward until the wire is released.
Remove the locks
Remove the 12 screws from the bracket for the motors.
Fold the motor bracket forward.
Note! The bracket for the motors may be secured with butyl tape.
Heat up the metal with a hot air gun.
Remove the drive wire for the rear latch arms for the cover.
Remove the entire drive assembly and lock. Place them on a level surface.
Remove the 3 nuts for the motor.
Note! Counterhold so that the rubber mounting for the motor is not damaged. Remove the drive wires. First slide the block to the end of the rail. Lift out the block and remove the wires.
Remove the nut for the wire sleeve.
Replace components.
Installing drive wires for the cover plate lock
Screw the sleeve for the locks into place with the nut. Set the lock nut to the same position as when it was removed.
Install:
- the locks on the wire so that they are at the same height above the guide sleeve. Tension the strut approximately 30 mm before the cog half (A) engages
- the 2 screws for the cover plate lock
- the 3 for the lock side piece.
Insert the drive wires in the socket for the wire guide. A = 45 mm from the edge.
Note! This dimension must be identical on both sides. The lock must be open.
Apply a small amount of grease on the wire and the wire guide.
Check that the joint is correctly positioned.
Install the flange for the wire and sleeve. Align it and press the motor into place.
Note! Ensure that the flanges on the wire align in the sockets for the motor.
Screw the motor into place.
Install the bracket for the motors.
Operate the convertible top manually, see Emergency operation Emergency Operation.
Check whether the locks click at the same time when opening and locking the left and right-hand sides.
Ensure that locks are positioned in the same way. If not, rotate one of the locks and try again.
Replacing the drive wire for the rear latch arm
Removing the drive wire for the rear latch arm
Remove the 12 screws from the bracket for the motors.
Fold the motor bracket forward.
Note! The bracket for the motors may be secured with butyl tape.
Heat up the metal with a hot air gun.
Remove:
- the locking for the wires
- the drive wire from the motor.
Remove the drive wire from the rear latch arm (spline joint).
Draw the wire out through the hole in the motor bracket.
Replace the wire.
Note! The drive shaft must not rotate during replacement.
Installing the drive wire for the rear latch arm
Install the drive wire for the rear latch arm (spline joint).
Insert the wire through the hole in the motor bracket.
Install:
- the drive wire from the motor
- the locking for the wires.
Install the 12 screws in the bracket for the motors.
Replacing the edge wire
Removing the edge wire
Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Replace the wire if the mounting or the wire is damaged.
Fold up the textile outer roof at the front lock arm or remove the textile outer roof according to Replacing the textile roof Replacing the Textile Roof , Replacing the textile roof Replacing the Textile Roof.
Remove 1 screw for the wire bracket.
Remove:
- 1 screw for the wire bracket
- 1 clip for the wire bracket
- the wire.
Installing the edge wire
Insert a new wire in the channel on the textile.
Install in reverse order.
Reinstall the textile outer roof according to Replacing the textile roof Replacing the Textile Roof , Replacing the textile roof Replacing the Textile Roof.
