Checking back-up (reversing) lamp switch/gear-shift position sensor signal

Check back-up (reversing) lamp switch/gear-shift position sensor signal




- Ignition on.
- Put into back-up (reverse) gear.
- Read off the value for gear position.
The value should be REAR when in back-up (reverse) gear and STILL/ADV in neutral/forward gear.





Is the value OK?

Yes - No Fault Found

No - Check, connectors and cable

Check the RTI control module and back-up (reversing) light switch (cars with automatic transmission: gear-shift position sensor) connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
check cable between the control module #B11 and back-up (reversing) light switch terminal 2 (for cars with automatic transmission: gear-shift position sensor terminal 5) for an open-circuit. Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:












- Ignition off.
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
- Ignition on.
- Put into back-up (reverse) gear.
- Read off the value for gear position.
The value should be REAR when in back-up (reverse) gear and STILL/ADV in neutral/forward gear.

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Fault-tracing information
No Fault Found
