Signal Too High

Signal too high

Checking oil temperature sensor function

- Ignition on.
- Read off oil temperature.
Check that the temperature is reasonable.
Compare with the transmission temperature.

Is the transmission temperature reasonable?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking transmission fluid temperature sensor

-------------------------------------------------

Checking transmission fluid temperature sensor

- Ignition off.
- Remedy control module and transmission connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
- Reconnect control module and transmission connectors.
- Ignition on
- Read off oil temperature.
Check that the temperature is reasonable.
Compare with the transmission temperature.
If the transmission temperature seems reasonable the cause of the fault was contact resistance or oxidation in the control module or transmission connector.

Other information:
- To disconnect control module, see Replacing the gearbox control module (TCM) .
- To disconnect transmission connector, see Inspecting/cable harness to solenoids .

Was the transmission temperature reasonable?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking wiring and components

-------------------------------------------------

Checking wiring and components
Check the cable between control module #A37 and transmission connector (control module side) #12 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the cable between control module #A55 and transmission connector (control module side) #13 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Hint: With the ignition off and the transmission connector disconnected the resistance between #12 and #13 should be 765-1035 ohms at 20°C (68°F). At other transmission temperatures, see table Component resistance values Component Resistance Values.

Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To connect the breakout box, see Connecting breakout box, Transmission control module (TCM) Connecting Breakout Box, Transmission Control Module (TCM).
- To disconnect transmission connector, see Inspecting/cable harness to solenoids .
- To check/replace oil temperature sensor, see Replacing the oil temperature sensor .
- For information about signals, see Signal specification, Transmission control module (TCM) Signal Description AW50-42.

Continue - Resetting "Transmission oil change" counter

-------------------------------------------------

Resetting "Transmission oil change" counter

Resetting Transmission fluid change counter

Resetting Transmission fluid change counter

Hint: The transmission control module (TCM) has a counter for the oil quality. The counter counts up if the transmission is exposed to too high a load or an ambient temperature that is too high. If the counter is not reset when the oil is drained or changed, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored in faulty circumstances. Therefore it is important that the "Transmission oil change" counter is reset.

Note! This applies only when the transmission fluid is changed and when the fluid is changed when repairs are carried out to the transmission temperature sensor.

- Ignition on.
Reset the counter by clicking on the VCT 2000 symbol.

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reinstall connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
- Read off oil temperature.
Check that the transmission oil temperature is within its permitted range. Compare with the transmission temperature.

Is the oil temperature within its permitted range?

Yes - VERIFIED

No - VERIFICATION FAILED

Fault-tracing information

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

-------------------------------------------------

Intermittent fault
Check the wiring between control module #A37 and #A55 and transmission connectors #12 and #13 for an intermittent short-circuit to each other.
Check the cable between control module #A37 and transmission connector (control module side) #12 for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Check the cable between control module #A55 and transmission connector (control module side) #13 for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
