Hydraulic Fault

Hydraulic fault

Checking shift solenoids S1 and S2

Note! The transmission should not be colder than room temperature when activated.

- Ignition on.
- Activate shift solenoid S1 and S2 individually.
A "clicking" sound should be heard when the solenoids are activated. Use a stethoscope to hear the "click" more clearly. If the solenoids do not click this indicates that there is a mechanical fault.

Do both solenoids click?

Yes - Checking gear-shift position sensor adjustment

No - Replacing transmission

-------------------------------------------------

Checking gear-shift position sensor adjustment
Check gear-shift position sensor adjustment according to Checking/adjusting gear-shift position sensor .
Check that gear control functions correctly so that gear-shift position sensor position corresponds with gear selector lever position.
Remedy as necessary.

Was the gear-shift position sensor or control incorrectly adjusted?

Yes - Verification

No - Checking resistance in solenoid S1 and S2 circuits

-------------------------------------------------

- Ignition off.
- Disconnect control module according to Replacing the gearbox control module (TCM) .
- Connect breakout box according to Connecting breakout box, Transmission control module (TCM) Connecting Breakout Box, Transmission Control Module (TCM).
Connect an ohmmeter between breakout box:
#A50 (#A50) and #A53 (#A53), solenoid S1
#B8 (#A68) and #A53 (#A53), solenoid S2.

The ohmmeter should read 12-18 ohms.

OK - Replacing transmission

Not OK - Checking for contact resistance and oxidation

-------------------------------------------------

Checking for contact resistance and oxidation
Check transmission and control module connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Other information:
- To access transmission connector, see Inspecting/cable harness to solenoids .
- To access the control module connector, see Connecting breakout box, Transmission control module (TCM) Connecting Breakout Box, Transmission Control Module (TCM).

Select Continue when the fault has been remedied.

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing transmission
Fault-tracing indicates fault in transmission. Try a new transmission according to Gearbox/torque converter, replacing.

Continue - Resetting adaptation and oil quality counter

-------------------------------------------------

Resetting adaptation and oil quality counter

Resetting the adaptation

Resetting adaptation and the counter for "Transmission oil change"

Hint: The transmission has torque controlled adaptive pressure control. Pressure control means that the transmission regulates the pressure itself during each gear shift. This avoids harsh gear shifting. Each gear shift is evaluated by the control module and stored in the memory. This allows for compensation for wear and tear in the transmission and clutch. It is important that the adaptation in the memory is reset after the transmission has been repaired. This is to ensure normal operation. The oil is replaced during repair; the "Transmission oil change" counter must be reset. If the counter is not reset when the fluid is drained and replaced, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored in incorrect circumstances.

Note! This applies only if the transmission or one of the components in the transmission have been replaced.

- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the adaptation and counter.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components
- Ignition on.
Test drive car according to Test Drive Form, description When test driving the oil temperature must be above 20°C (68°F).
Beware of any irregularities in the transmission function.

Does the transmission operate correctly?

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test
