Fault In Memory Position






Fault in memory position

Checking memory button function




- Ignition off.
Read off status for memory button 1 and MEM.
Depress programming button MEM and hold it down at the same time as memory button 1 is depressed.





The status for MEM and memory button 1 should change from OFF to ON when the relevant button is depressed.

OK - Checking memory function 1

Not OK - Connecting the breakout box

Move seat to a new position using the control buttons.
Try to move the seat to the stored memory position 1.

Does the seat move to memory position 1?

Yes - Fault-tracing information

No - Replacing component

Fault-tracing information
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has probably registered because no position has been programmed in memory position 1.

Continue - FAULT FOUND

Replacing component
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has probably registered due to an internal fault in the control module.
Try a new control module according to Control module, replace Control Module.

Yes - CONNECTED

No - NOT CONNECTED

- Ignition OFF.
- Connect the break-out box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428 using adapter 981 3194 Replaced by 9511495 981 3194 Replaced by 951 1495 on the 16-pin green connector (terminals 31-46).
Connect an ohmmeter between battery negative terminal and:
- terminal 36 on break-out box
- terminal 37 on break-out box









In both cases the ohmmeter should read 0 ohms.

OK - Calibrating ground terminals, continued

Not OK - Checking for an open-circuit

- Ignition OFF.
Measure with an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and position A:3 on the 4-pin connector.









The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohms.

OK - FAULT FOUND

Not OK - Checking for an open-circuit, contact resistance and oxidation

Check lead between controller and control module connection D:6 or D:7 for break as per Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Press "Continue" when the fault has been remedied.

Checking for an open-circuit, contact resistance and oxidation
Check lead between control module connection 31 and ground point for break as per Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and contact resistance and oxidation in accordance with Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.

Press "Continue" when the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Breakout box connected.
Connect an ohmmeter between the breakout box outlets 32 (memory button 1) and 36 (ground). Depress memory button 1 and read off resistance.
Connect the ohmmeter between breakout box outlet 33 (MEM) and 36 (ground). Depress MEM and read off resistance.









The resistance should be 0 ohms when the relevant button is depressed.

OK - Checking contact resistance and oxidation

Not OK - Replacing component

Correct wiring or try a new control panel according to Control panel replacement Control Panel.





Continue - Verification

Correct the 16-pin connector terminal D:2 and D:3 for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
If the fault persists after verification, try a new control module in according to Control module, replace Control Module.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows.




- Ignition OFF.
- Connect up seat in car.
Program a seat position into memory 1.
Change seat position using the control buttons.
Activate stored memory position 1 to see if the seat moves to that position.

Does the seat move to memory position 1?

Yes - VERIFIED

No - VERIFICATION FAILED

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
