Checking engine control module (ECM) type
Compare the engine control module (ECM) P/N visually with the replacement parts catalogue to determine if it is the correct control module for the engine type in the car.
Is it the correct engine control module (ECM)?
Yes - Checking for a short-circuit to supply voltage
No - Replacing component
-------------------------------------------------
Replacing component
Install the new engine control module (ECM) with correct P/N.
Caution! The engine control module (ECM) must not be disconnected until at least 4 minutes after switching off the ignition. Neither may it be disconnected while the engine cooling fan (FC) is still running. (If nothing else is indicated when replacing the relevant engine control module (ECM)).
Select Continue when the fault has been remedied.

Checking if the fault persists
- Ignition off.
- Connect the engine control module (ECM).
- Connect the immobilizer control module.
Note! When the ignition has been switched on and off numerous times (within 30 seconds), certain engine control modules (ECM) transmit no new "question" (initiation signal). Wait 30 seconds with ignition off before switching the ignition on, if the ignition has been switched on and off in quick succession.
- Ignition on.
Read DTCs.
Is the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) still stored?
Yes - Select engine control module (ECM)
No - Verification
