Signal Too High

Signal too high

Checking outside temperature sensor function

- Ignition on.
- Read off outside temperature.
Check the outside temperature reading is correct. Compare with the actual air temperature.

Is the temperature reading OK?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking the connectors

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the connectors

- Ignition off.
- Remedy outside temperature sensor and control module connector for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check any damage etc.
- Reinstall components, reconnect connectors etc.
- Ignition on.
- Read off outside temperature.
Check that the outside temperature is within its permitted range. Compare with the actual air temperature.
If temperature is now OK this indicates that the fault was caused by poor contact in the connectors.

Other information:
- To access the control module/connect breakout box see.
- To access/replace the outside temperature sensor see Replacing outside temperature sensor and glow plugs Service and Repair.

Is the temperature reading OK?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking component and cables

-------------------------------------------------

Checking component and cables
Check outside temperature sensor resistance. For resistance values, see Component resistance values Component Resistance Values.
Check cable between control module #4 and outer temperature sensor terminal 2 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check cable between control module #7 and outer temperature sensor terminal 1 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault

Note! In the event of a fault in the ground lead, diagnostic trouble code (DTC) HEA-801 Coolant temperature sensor may also be stored.

Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access the control module/connect breakout box see.
- To access/replace the outside temperature sensor see Replacing outside temperature sensor and glow plugs Service and Repair.
- With ignition on and outside temperature sensor connector disconnected, the voltage between outside temperature sensor connector terminal 1 (control module side) and ground should be approximately 5 V.
- With ignition of and outside temperature sensor connector disconnected the resistance between outside temperature sensor connector terminal 2 (control module side) and ground should be approximately 0 ohms.
- For other values, see Signal specification Additional heater 912-D/B Signal Specification Additional Heater 912-D/B.

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

Attempt New Test - Checking outside temperature sensor function

-------------------------------------------------

Intermittent fault
Check cable between control module #7 and outside temperature sensor terminal 1 and cable between control module #4 and outside temperature sensor terminal 2 for an intermittent open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access the control module/connect breakout box see.
- To access/replace the outside temperature sensor see Replacing outside temperature sensor and glow plugs Service and Repair.
