The value should be HIGH.
Is the value HIGH?
Yes - Intermittent fault

- Ignition on.
Read off key status.
Is the value HIGH?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
No - Checking ignition switch

- Disconnect the yellow cable from ignition switch #S.
- Ignition on.
Read off key status.
Is the value HIGH?
Yes - Replacing component
No - Checking cables

Try a new ignition switch according to Replacing the steering column Replacing the Steering Column.

Check fuse 18.
Hint: If the fuse is blown, check the circuit after fuse 18 for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , then replace fuse.
Check the cable between ignition switch #S and fuse 18, and the cable between fuse 18 and control module #B10 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary.
