Checking the blower fan




- Ignition on.
- Activate blower fan by setting the blower fan switch to maximum speed.
Check that the blower fan is working.

Is the blower fan working?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking component

Checking component
Check that there is enough space for the blower fan rotor to rotate in the climate control system and that nothing is blocking it.
Check by hand whether the blower fan rotor blades can rotate freely with the blower fan removed.
Remedy as necessary.

Were any faults found?

Yes - Verification

Checking cables
Check the control module and power unit connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check cable between control module #A14 and power unit for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check power supply to power unit #A4 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check ground lead between power unit #B2 and ground terminal for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To remove the control module, refer to Replacing ECC control module Removal and Replacement.

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.








- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
- Activate the passenger compartment fan by setting the fan speed selector to max. speed.
Check that the passenger compartment fan works.

Is the blower fan working normally?

Yes - VERIFIED

No - VERIFICATION FAILED

Intermittent fault
- Check the control module and power unit connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
- Check cable between control module #A14 and power unit for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
- Check power supply to power unit #A4 for an intermittent open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
- Check ground lead between power unit #B2 and ground terminal for an intermittent open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
The fault also could have been caused by the fan sticking, dirt etc.
Remedy as necessary.
