Checking function air distribution damper motor
- Ignition on.
- Wait at least 10 seconds so the control module can run diagnostics.
- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Has the status of ECC-222 changed to intermittent fault?
Yes - Intermittent fault
No - Checking connectors
-------------------------------------------------
Checking connectors
- Ignition off
- Corrective action to damper motor and control module connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check any damage etc.
- To remove the control module, see Replacing ECC control module Removal and Replacement.
- To access the air distribution damper motor, see Replacing damper motors Removal and Replacement.
- Reinstall components, reconnect connectors etc.
- Ignition on.
- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
If the DTC status changed to intermittent it means that the fault is no longer present.
Does the status change?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
No - Checking components

Checking components
Check signal cable between ECC control module #A28 and damper motor terminal 3 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
If cables are OK, try a new damper motor.
Remedy as necessary
Other information:
- To access/replace the air distribution damper motor, see Replacing damper motors Removal and Replacement.
- To connect the breakout box, see Connection of breakout box ECC Connection of Breakout Box ECC.
- The voltage on the signal cable varies between approximately 0-5 V depending on the damper motor position. The power supply to the damper motor should be approximately 5 V. For other values, see Signal specification ECC Signal Specification ECC.
Continue - Self-adjustment of damper motor limit positions
Self-adjusting of shutter motor end position
-------------------------------------------------
Self-adjusting of shutter motor end position
Self-adjustment of the shutter motor end position
Self-adjustment of the damper motor limit positions, ECC
Note! Self-adjustment must be carried out if the control module or damper motor is replaced or the damper motor or its linkage has been removed. A new control module will cause the green indicator LED on the air conditioning (A/C) switch to flash until self-adjustment has been carried out. The green LED on the air conditioning (A/C) switch will flash until the self-adjustment of a new control module has been carried out.
Hint: During self-adjustment the control module runs the damper motors to their limit positions. The control module then stores the value returned from the position sensor for the damper motor. The control module is then able to operate the motor between the limit positions during normal operation.
- Start the engine (the generator charges)
- Use the Adjusting Motors function to activate self-adjusting on the damper motors. This takes approximately thirty seconds.
When self-adjusting is complete the green indicator LED will stop flashing.
Select one of the following options:
1. Exit self-adjustment
2. Read data about problems during self-adjustment.
1 - FAULT FOUND
2 - Checking causes of no self-adjustment
------------------------
Checking causes of no self-adjustment
Checking causes of no self-adjustment
Checking causes of no self-adjustment
Check and/or remedy the following if damper motor self-adjustment is interrupted or is not possible.
Start the engine (the generator (GEN) charges). Climate control unit (ECC) terminal #B3 receives a signal from the generator indicating that there is charging. This is to supply the damper motors with maximum power supply during adjustment. If the signal is missing, the adjustment is not permitted to start. Read off the "Generator D+" parameter. Check that the signal is being transmitted.
Switch off the engine. Start the engine again. If self-adjustment has been carried out in the current ignition cycle, the control module will not perform a new self-adjustment until the ignition has been switch off and the engine re-started. Try to perform self-adjustment again.
Read off the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Carry out any fault-tracing according to the instructions.
Check that the control module power supply (terminal #B5) and power ground (terminal #A23) is OK.
Check that the position sensor circuit is OK for both the temperature damper motors.
Check the signals to control module terminals #A7, #A13 and #A22 for the right temperature damper motor.
Check the signals to control module terminals #A7, #A12 and #A22 for the left temperature damper motor.
Check that the damper, linkage, cam discs, damper motors etc are correctly installed and can move freely and smoothly to the limit positions. Check the damper motor shaft and its mounting in the damper spindle in particular for damage and cracks etc.
