Signal missing

Selecting engine control module (ECM)
The engine control module (ECM) must be selected in order to carry out the fault-tracing.
1. B5252FS or B5202FS
2. D5252T
3. Other engine control modules (ECM)

- Ignition on.
- Read off engine coolant temperature (ECT).
Check the engine coolant temperature (ECT) reading is correct. Compare with the actual coolant temperature of the engine.

Hint: To obtain the engine temperature, read off engine coolant temperature (ECT) from the engine control module (ECM).





Is the temperature reading OK?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking connectors

- Ignition on.
- Read off engine coolant temperature (ECT).
Check the engine coolant temperature (ECT) reading is correct. Compare with the actual coolant temperature of the engine.

Hint: To obtain the engine temperature, read off engine coolant temperature (ECT) from the engine control module (ECM).





Is the temperature reading OK?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking connectors

Other engine control modules (ECM)




- Ignition on.
- Read off engine coolant temperature (ECT).
Check the engine coolant temperature (ECT) reading is correct. Compare with the actual coolant temperature of the engine.

Is the temperature reading OK?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking connectors

- Ignition off.
- Check and remedy the ECC control module and engine control module (ECM) connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Carefully check for any damage etc.
- To disconnect ECC control module, see Replacing ECC control module Removal and Replacement.
- Reinstall components, reconnect connectors etc.
- Ignition on.
- Read off engine coolant temperature (ECT).
Check the engine coolant temperature (ECT) reading is correct. Compare with the actual coolant temperature of the engine.

Hint: To obtain the engine temperature, read off engine coolant temperature (ECT) from the engine control module (ECM).

If temperature is now OK this indicates that the fault was caused by poor contact in the connectors.





Is the temperature reading OK?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking cables

Permanent Fault and for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Also check cable between ECC control module #B2 and combined instrument panel combined instrument panel #A26 for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- Connection of breakout box to ECC control module, refer to Connection of breakout box ECC Connection of Breakout Box ECC.
- The frequency on the coolant temperature signal varies with the temperature. For other values, see Signal specification ECC Signal Specification ECC.

Check cable between ECC control module #B2 and engine control module (ECM) for an intermittent open circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults and an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults and an intermittent short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals.
