Signal Too High

Signal too high

Checking passenger compartment temperature sensor

- Ignition on.
- Read off the temperature in the passenger compartment.
Check that the temperature reading obtained is correct. Compare with the actual air temperature. If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) stored is a permanent fault a substitute value of approximately 22°C (71.6°F) will be displayed.

Is the temperature reading OK?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking connectors

-------------------------------------------------

Checking connectors

- Ignition off.
- Corrective action to the passenger compartment temperature sensor and control module connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Carefully check for any damage etc.
- To remove the control module, refer to Replacing ECC control module Removal and Replacement.
- To access the passenger compartment temperature sensor, refer to Replacing passenger compartment temperature sensor (ECC) Removal and Replacement.
- Reinstall components, reconnect connectors etc.
- Ignition on.
- Read off the temperature in the passenger compartment.
Check that the temperature reading obtained is correct. Compare with the actual air temperature.
If temperature is now OK this indicates that the fault was caused by poor contact in the connectors.

Is the temperature reading OK?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking components and cables

-------------------------------------------------

Checking components and cables
Check passenger compartment temperature sensor resistance. For resistance values, see ECC electrical specifications [1][2]Electrical Specifications.
Check cable between ECC control module #B6 and passenger compartment temperature sensor terminal 5 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check cable between ECC control module #B10 and passenger compartment temperature sensor terminal 3 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Hint: A short-circuit on the ground lead can be caused by a short-circuit to supply voltage. Always check ground lead as well for this fault cause.

Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access/replace the passenger compartment temperature sensor, see Replacing passenger compartment temperature sensor (ECC) Removal and Replacement.
- To connect the breakout box, see Connection of breakout box ECC Connection of Breakout Box ECC.
- The voltage on the signal cable varies with temperature. At 20 °C (68°F) voltage should be approximately 2.5 V. For other values, see Signal specification ECC Signal Specification ECC.

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test
