Current Too High. Intermittent Fault

Current too high. Intermittent fault

Mechanical check
Carry out the mechanical check according to Mechanical check Mechanical Check.

Was a fault found?

Yes - Fault-tracing information

No - Checking the connectors

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the connectors
- Check control module connector C. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults. Check for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access and replace the control module see Replacing the control module Service and Repair.

Was the fault found?

Yes - Fault-tracing information

No - Checking the wiring

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the wiring

- Check that the micro-switch for tensioner rib up appears normal
- Ignition on
- Read off the status of the tensioner rib micro-switch
- Operate the micro-switch manually.
The status should change from activation (micro-switch on) to non activation (micro-switch off).
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To gain access to or replace the tensioner rib micro-switch, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
- There is a short-circuit to ground if the status is low when the switch inactive
- If the status is high with the micro switch activated there is an open-circuit or a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.

Does the status change?

Yes - Fault-tracing information

No - Checking the component

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the component

- Check the micro-switch connector. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults. Check for contact resistance and oxidation Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults
- Ignition on.
The switch should be in unaffected position.
Connect a voltmeter between micro-switch terminal #1 and ground.
Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Connect a voltmeter between micro-switch terminal #2 and ground.
Take the same reading as above.
Replace the micro-switch if a short-circuit is found.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To gain access to or replace the tensioner rib micro-switch, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches.

Was a short-circuit found?

Yes - Fault-tracing information

No - Checking the component

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the component

- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter between micro-switch connector terminals #1 and #2.
Activate the micro-switch so that it is active throughout the test.
Check for an intermittent open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Replace the micro-switch if an open-circuit is found.
If no fault cause is found, there is probably a fault in the cable between the control module and the micro-switch connector.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To gain access to or replace the tensioner rib micro-switch, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
- For other values, see Opening and closing the convertible top Opening and Closing the Convertible Top
- To connect the breakout box, see Connecting the convertible control unit breakout box Connecting the Breakout Box
- To access or replace the control module, see Replacing the control module Service and Repair.

Fault-tracing information
If the fault is intermittent, do not verify fault-tracing if the fault does not recur.
It is possible to view the information again, or leave fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
