Current too high. Permanent fault
Mechanical check
First carry out mechanical check Mechanical check Mechanical Check.
Then carry out mechanical check Mechanical check Mechanical Check.
Check and adjust.
Was a fault found?
Yes - Verification
No - Checking the connectors
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the connectors
- Check control module connector C. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Check for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary.
Other information:
- To access and replace the control module see Replacing the control module Service and Repair.
Was the fault found?
Yes - Verification
No - Checking the wiring
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the wiring
- Connect the control module.
- Check that the micro-switches appear normal
- Ignition on
- Read off the status of the micro-switch for the rear locking arm, right and left-hand sides
- Operate the micro-switch manually.
The status should change from activation (micro-switch on) to non activation (micro-switch off).
Repeat the same check for micro-switch for the rear locking arm, left side.
Other information:
- To access and replace the control module see Replacing the control module Service and Repair
- To access or replace the micro-switch for the rear locking arm, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
- There is a short-circuit to ground if the status is constantly low
- There is an open-circuit or a short-circuit to voltage if the status is constantly high.
Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful!
Does the status for both micro-switches change?
Yes - Verification
No - Checking the component
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the component
- The fault-tracing covers the micro-switch which gave the faulty signal
- Check the micro-switch connector. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault
- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between micro-switch terminal #1 and ground, and between terminal #2 and ground.
Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary.
Other information:
- To access or replace the micro-switch for the rear locking arm, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches.
Was a short-circuit found?
Yes - Verification
No - Checking the component
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the component
- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter between micro-switch connector terminals #1 and #2.
Activate the micro-switch so that it is active throughout the test.
Test for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
If an open-circuit is found, replace the micro-switch for the rear locking arm.
If no fault is found there is probably a fault in the cable between the control module and the micro-switch connector.
Remedy as necessary.
Other information:
- To access or replace the micro-switch for the rear locking arm, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches.
Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.

Hint: After the repair it is necessary to check that the fault has been rectified.
- Ignition off
- Connect the connectors, install the components, etc.
- Ignition on
- Apply parking brake
- Close the luggage compartment lid
- Speed < 4km/h.
Operate the control switch to move the convertible top.
