Faulty Signal. Permanent Fault
Faulty signal. Permanent fault
Checking components
- Check the function of the micro-switch
- Check that the switch appears normal
- Ignition on
- Read off the status of the micro-switch
- Operate the micro-switch manually.
The status should change from activation (micro-switch on) to non activation (micro-switch off).
Other information:
- For the location of the components, see Convertible system Component Locations
- For other values, see Opening and closing the convertible top Opening and Closing the Convertible Top
- To access the micro-switch for the tensioner rib, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches.
Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.
Hint: If status is constantly active it means there is a short-circuit to ground.
If the status is constantly inactive there is an open-circuit or a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Does the status change?
Yes - Verification
No - Checking the connector
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the connector
Check control module connector C. Check for a short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary.
Other information:
- To access or replace the control module see Replacing the control module Service and Repair.
Was a fault detected?
Yes - Verification
No - Checking the wiring
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the wiring
- Ignition off.
Check the micro-switch connector. Check for a short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Connect an ohmmeter between micro switch terminal #1 and ground and terminal #2 and ground. Take readings for a short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
The micro switch must be in the unaffected position.
Try a new micro-switch if a short-circuit is found.
If no fault is found, there is probably a fault in the cable between the control module and the micro-switch connector.
Remedy as necessary.
Other information:
- To access the micro-switch for the tensioner rib, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
- The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
