Faulty Signal. Permanent Fault
Faulty signal. Permanent fault
Checking components
- Check the function of the micro-switches
- Check that the micro-switches appear normal
- Ignition on
- Connect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST)
- Read off the status of the micro-switches
- Activate the right micro-switch manually so that it is constantly active
- Operate the left micro-switch manually.
The status should change from activation (micro-switch on) to non activation (micro-switch off).
Hint: The micro-switches are connected in series.
Activate the left micro-switch manually so that it is constantly active.
Operate the right micro switch manually.
The status should change from activation (micro-switch on) to non activation (micro-switch off).
Connect the control module.
Check control module connector C. Check for a short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

- To access or replace the control module see Replacing the control module Service and Repair
- To access micro switches, lock cover, see: Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
- There is a short-circuit to ground if the status is constantly low
- There is an open-circuit or a short-circuit to voltage if the status is constantly high.
Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.
Does the status change?

Mechanical check
Carry out a mechanical check. See Mechanical check Mechanical Check.
Adjust the cover lock. See Replacing and adjusting the striker plate for the cover Replacing and Adjusting the Striker Plate for the Cover.
Adjust the cover. See Replacing, adjusting and emergency opening of the cover Replacing, Adjusting and Emergency Opening of the Cover.
Was a fault detected?
Yes - Verification
No - 0 Checking the connectors and cables
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the connectors and cables
- Ignition off.
Check the micro-switch connector. Check for a short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Connect an ohmmeter between micro-switch connector terminal #1 and ground and between terminal #2 and ground. Check for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. The switch should be in unaffected position.
Try a new micro-switch if a short-circuit is found.
If no fault is found, there is probably a fault in the cable between the control module and the micro-switch connector.
Remedy as necessary.
