Faulty Signal. Intermittent Fault

Faulty signal. Intermittent fault

Checking components

- Check the function of the micro-switches
- Check that the micro-switches appear normal
- Ignition on
- Connect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST)
- Read off the status of the micro-switches
- Activate the right micro-switch manually so that it is constantly active
- Operate the left micro-switch manually.
The status should change from activation (micro-switch on) to non activation (micro-switch off).

Hint: The micro-switches are connected in series.

Activate the left micro-switch manually so that it is constantly active.
Operate the right micro switch manually.
The status should change from activation (micro-switch on) to non activation (micro-switch off).
Connect the control module.
Check control module connector C. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.

Other information:
- For the location of the components, see Convertible system Component Locations
- For other values, see Opening and closing the convertible top Opening and Closing the Convertible Top
- To connect the breakout box, see Connecting the convertible control unit breakout box Connecting the Breakout Box
- To access micro switches, lock cover, see: Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
- There is a short-circuit if the status is low when the micro-switch is inactive
- There is an open-circuit or a short-circuit to supply voltage if the status is high when the micro switch is activated
Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.

- To access or replace the control module see Replacing the control module Service and Repair.

Does the status change?

Yes - Fault-tracing information

No - Mechanical check

Carry out a mechanical check. See Mechanical check Mechanical Check.

Was a fault detected?

Checking the connectors and cables

- Ignition off.
Check the connectors for the micro-switches. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Connect an ohmmeter between micro-switch connector terminal #1 and ground and between terminal #2 and ground. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Try a new micro-switch if a short-circuit is found.
If no fault is found, there is probably a fault in the cable between the control module and the micro-switch connector.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access micro switches, lock cover, see: Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.
