Faulty Signal. Intermittent Fault
Faulty signal. Intermittent fault
Checking the component
- Ignition off.
Check the micro-switch connector. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Connect an ohmmeter between micro-switch connector terminal #3 and ground and between terminal #4 and ground. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
The micro switch must be unaffected.
Try a new micro-switch if a short-circuit is found.
If no faults are found there is probably a fault in the cable between the control module and the micro-switch connectors.
Remedy as necessary.
Other information:
- For the location of the components, see Convertible system Component Locations
- For other values, see Opening and closing the convertible top Opening and Closing the Convertible Top
- To access the micro-switch for the front locking arm, front position, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches.
Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.

Checking the connectors
Check control module connector C. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Remedy as necessary.
Other information:
- To access and replace the control module see Replacing the control module Service and Repair.
Was a fault detected?
Yes - Fault-tracing information
No - Checking the cable
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the cable
- Connect the control module.
- Check the function of the micro-switch
- Check that the switch appears normal
- Ignition on
- Read off the status of the micro-switch
- Operate the micro-switch manually.
The status should change from activation (micro-switch on) to non activation (micro-switch off).
Other information:
- To access the micro-switch for the front locking arm, front position, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
- There is a short-circuit to ground if the status is low when the switch inactive
- If the status is high with the micro switch activated there is an open-circuit or a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.
Does the status change?
Yes - Fault-tracing information
No - No Fault Found

Fault-tracing information
If the fault is intermittent, do not verify fault-tracing if the fault does not recur.
It is possible to view the information again, or leave fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
Do you want to view the information again?
