Faulty Signal. Permanent Fault
Faulty signal. Permanent fault
Checking the micro-switch
- Check the function of the micro-switch
- Check that the micro-switch appears undamaged
- Ignition on
- Operate the micro-switch manually
- Read off the status of the micro-switch.
The status should change from activation (micro-switch on) to non activation (micro-switch off).
Other information:
- For the location of the components, see Convertible system Component Locations
- For other values, see Opening and closing the convertible top Opening and Closing the Convertible Top
- To gain access to or replace the micro-switch for the front lock, see Replacing and adjusting micro-switches Replacing and Adjusting Micro-Switches
- There is a short-circuit to ground if the status is constantly low
- There is an open-circuit or a short-circuit to voltage if the status is constantly high.
Hint: The micro-switch can be activated by hand or using a pointed tool. Be careful.
Does the status change?

Checking the component
- Ignition off.
Check the micro-switch connector. Check for a short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Connect an ohmmeter between micro-switch connector terminal #1 and ground. The micro-switch must be in the unaffected position.
Check for a short-circuit to ground. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Try a new micro-switch if a short-circuit is found.
Connect an ohmmeter between micro-switch connector terminals #1 and #2. Check for an open-circuit. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Activate the micro-switch manually so that it is active throughout the time the reading is being taken.
Try a new micro-switch if an open-circuit is found.
If no faults are found there is probably a fault in the cable between the control module and the micro-switch connectors.
Remedy as necessary.
