Checking WHIPS, version 1

Note!
The WHIPS system must be checked after every collision.

Always check both the right and left end mountings (hinges) on both front seats.

Fold or angle the backrest forward.

Lift the upholstery / impact protection is part of the end mounting.

Check from the outside that the green indicator pin (G) is intact.

Gently pull the indicator pin to check that it is in position and is undamaged. If the indicator pin is missing or deformed, the deformation element must be replaced. See Replacing WHIPS for mechanical front seats. See Replacing WHIPS for power seats.

The illustrations shows the left-hand side mounting. The right-hand side is a mirror image.

The nut always faces the centre of the seat.

Fold the backrest backwards.

(A) = reference mark. Always the second outermost section of the WHIPS mounting.

Check that the marking / edge of the deformation element is not in front of the reference mark (A).

Always check both the right and left sides of both the front seats.

(B) = deformation element in the WHIPS mounting.

If the mark / edge on the deformation section (B) is in front of the reference mark, the deformation element must be replaced. See VADIS, Replacing WHIPS (mechanical front seats) or Replacing WHIPS (power seats). Always check both the right and left sides of both the front seats.
