Starter Motor: Service and Repair



Starter motor, replacing

Removal

- Disconnect the battery negative lead.

Caution! When removing/installing the battery leads observe warnings.

- Remove the air cleaner housing.

- Remove the solenoid from the air cleaner housing.

- Remove the air cleaner (ACL) housing. Service and Repair




- Remove the front screw for the starter motor bracket.
- Starter motor bracket withdrawn during model year 2002.

- Disconnect the connector and cable for the solenoid.

- Remove the screws (2 pcs) that hold the starter motor to the transmission.

- Remove the starter motor.

Removing the solenoid

- Slacken off the nut. Remove the cable




- Remove the 3 screws.

- Lift the solenoid. Unhook the solenoid and the spring and hook.

Installation Starter motor and solenoid

- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- To install the air cleaner housing, see Brake pipe master cylinder / ABS unit, replacing:Install the air cleaner (ACL) housing. Service and Repair

- Tightening torques
- Screw for the starter motor bracket: 6 NM.
- Screws for the starter motor/transmission: 40 NM
