Replacing tailgate lock mechanism and lock button

This Service Bulletin is complementary to Service Manual Section 8(82-86, 88), Interior, exterior S70/V70 1998- and applies only to Volvo V70 1998- with a lock button for the tailgate.

Tailgate panel

Removal




Remove frame with a weatherstrip tool or similar.




Install a piece of card to protect the panel

Push a piece of card, approximately 180 x 100 mm (7" x 4"), between the upper and lower panel on both sides.

This is to protect the upper panel when the lower panel is slid out.




Carefully bend and turn the panel down so that the clips are tree. Use a weatherstrip tool if necessary.




Knock the panel ends forwards by hand until the panels comes free.

Installation




Transfer the clips from the panel to the appointed place on the tailgate.




Ensure that the lock button (1) is inserted into the hole before the panel is pushed into place on the tailgate. Locate panel in the correct position.




Bend the lower edge and push in panel.

Tailgate lock mechanism




Remove:
- panels according to AAA1.
- inner tailgate opener (2 screws)

Disconnect connector (2).




Remove:
- connecting rod to lock button (1).
- connecting rod to lock cylinder (2)
- connecting rod to handle (3).

Note! Connector rod locks (2) and (3), and location of bar (4) from inner door opener.




Remove lock mechanism (3 screws, torx). Install in reverse order.
