Faulty Signal

ECM-980F MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR
FAULTY SIGNAL

Checking status
- Start the engine.

Hint: If the idling speed is normal, increase the engine speed (RPM) to above 4000 rpm and then release the pedal.

Does the idling speed become uneven?
Yes - Continue below.
No - Skip to "Checking the Idling Speed Adaptation Values"

Checking the toothed belt for the camshafts
- Check whether the toothed belt for the camshafts has jumped off its cogs.

Was there a fault with the camshaft adjustment?
Yes - Testing Complete.
No - Continue below.

Checking the Idling Speed Adaptation Values
- Start the engine and run it to normal operating temperature
- Engine idling.

Check the adaptation value according to level 1.

If the adaptation value is:
- less than 1.0, try a new mass air flow (MAF) sensor
- greater than 1.0, remedy air leakage downstream of the electronic throttle module
- 1.0, try a new manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor.

Other information:
- For further information about the location of components, Locations
- To access/replace the mass air flow (MAF) sensor, Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor, Replacing
- To access/replace the engine control module (ECM), Engine Control Module (ECM), Replacing
- To access/replace the electronic throttle module, Throttle Body (Electronic Throttle Module), Replacing

Has anything been remedied?
Yes - Skip to "Reset Adaptations"
No - Continue below.

Fault-tracing information
The fault should be diagnosed and remedied. Since this is not the case the fault-tracing process has failed.

Reset Adaptations
- Switch off the engine.
- Ignition on.
Reset adaptations so that the system can be started from normal. It is also then quicker to see whether the adaptation value is stable.

Start adaptations at idling speed and check the values
Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Start the engine and let it idle. Check that the value is stable and does not deviate upwards or downwards.
Check that the adaptation value is between 0.90 and 1.10.

Certain conditions must be met for adaptation to start:
- engine coolant temperature (ECT) between 80°C and 110°C
- adaptation active
- canister purge (CP) valve not active=0 s
- current air flow must be greater than 2 g/s and less than 7.5 g/s.

Hint: If fuel vaporization is high, the canister purge (CP) valve is active for long periods. In this case, it may be necessary to disconnect the hose between the canister purge (CP) valve and the EVAP canister.

Is the adaptation value between 0.90 and 1.10?
Yes - Tesing Complete.
No - Continue below.

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed. Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
