Bushing Outer Control Arm Upper, Replace


Removal


Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.


Preparations
Remove the wheel.

Removing drive shaft nuts
Remove:
- The ABS sensor. Tape the sensor to the tie rod.

Note! Do not separate the connector.







- The drive shaft nut, use counterhold 999 5540.



Adjusting The Parking Brake
- Slacken off the parking brake adjuster
- Slacken off the brake shoe adjuster as much as possible
- Turn the brake disc so that one of the wheel stud holes is opposite the gear wheel for brake shoe adjustment






- Turn the gear wheel as far as it will go. Use a screwdriver.







Removing The Brake Calipers And Brake Discs
- Remove the brake calipers and brake discs on both sides
- Hang the brake caliper in the spring using a hook
- Mark the position of the brake disc in relation to the locating pin
- Remove the brake disc.






Removing Brake Shoes
Remove:
- The parking brake shoes
- The parking brake cable mountings in the control arm and wheel bearing housing.

Note! Make a note of the routing of the mechanical brake cables.

Carefully fold the cables back away from the rear suspension.






Installing The Tensioner
- Install the long screw for the tensioner on the mounting
- Install mounting 999 5660 on the rear axle member.

Note! Ensure that the rear axle mating surfaces are clean where the tool will be used.

- Screw the tensioner into place 999 5659 in the long screw.






- Tension the rear suspension to the normal position.
Hint: The rear suspension is in the normal position when the distance from the fender edge (1) to the center of the wheel (2) is 381 mm






Removing Wheel Spindle
Remove:
- The screw for the lower control arm mounting
- The screw for the outer upper control arm mounting
- The screw for the outer tie rod mounting.

Press in the drive shaft and remove the wheel spindle.






Removing The Bushing

- Install tool 990 7037 and 999 7053.
- Install the hydraulic c~inder
- Pull away the screws and remove the washer on the reverse of the bushing
- Remove the tool equipment.






- Install the hydraulic cylinder
- Pull the bushing out
- Separate the tool equipment.


Installation






Installing Bushing

- Install a new bushing and hydraulic cylinder
- Press in the bushing.

Installing The Wheel Spindle
Align the drive shaft and install the wheel spindle.

Install:
- The screw for the lower control arm mounting. Tighten to 80 Nm
- The screw for the outer upper control arm mounting. Tighten to 115 Nm
- The screw for the outer tie rod mounting. Tighten to 80 Nm.
Remove The Tensioner.


Installing The Brake Components

Install:

- The mechanical parking brake cable on the control arm and wheel bearing housing
- The brake shoes.

Note! The parking brake adjuster should be screwed in as far as it will go and the arrow on the cable gear should point forward.

Note! The mechanical parking brake cable must be routed over the brake hose.


Installing The Brake Disc And Brake Caliper

- Install The Brake Disc

Note! Ensure that the mating surfaces are absolutely clean.

- Install the brake caliper. Use new screws. Tighten to 60 Nm.

Adjusting The Parking Brake
- Check that the parking brake is not applied
- Turn the brake disc so that one of the wheel stud holes is opposite the gear wheel for brake shoe adjustment
- Adjust until the brake disc cannot be turned. Then slacken off the adjuster approximately 6 notches. Use a screwdriver.

Installing the drive shaft nut

Install:
- The ABS sensor
- The drive shaft nut. Use a new nut.

Tighten the drive shaft nut. Tighten to 140 Nm. Angle tighten 60°. Use counterhold 999 5540.


Finishing
- Install the wheels. See Installing wheels.
