Checking and adjusting boost pressure control (BPC) valve on the turbocharger (TC)

850, S70/V70/C70 1994-

REFERENCE: TP 2318201, SECTION 2 (23, 28), ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM MOTRONIC 4.4; 850 (B5254T) 1997-

This Service Bulletin replaces the earlier edition of Service Bulletin 25-810, dated July 1996, which should be discarded.

Checking and adjusting boost pressure control (BPC) valve on the turbocharger (TC)

Special tools: Regulator 999 5544-5
Pressure gauge 999 5646-8

Manometer 1

Use a pressure gauge to measure adjusting pressure.

To ensure correct measurements the pressure gauge should always hang vertically when taking readings.

Removing heat deflector plate 2

Remove:

- Heat deflector plate over turbocharger (TC).

- Four screws.

Removing pressure regulator hose 3

Remove

- Pressure regulator hose (marked in yellow).

Disconnect the hose at the turbocharger (TC) control valve.

- Fresh air intake from air cleaner (ACL) to access hose clamp.

Only S70/V70/C70:

The turbocharger (TC) control valve position and version have been changed In the S70/V70/C70

Disconnect the hose running backward from the turbocharger (TC) control valve (marked in yellow).

Release boost pressure control (BPC) valve spindle 4

Remove split pin from lever.

Disconnect spindle and lift straight up.

Connecting test equipment 5

Connect:

- pressure gauge to pressure regulator hose.

- pressure regulator 999 5544-5 to pressure gauge.

Note!
To ensure correct measurements the pressure gauge should always hang vertically in its hook when taking readings. Set the three-way junction connector handle in its middle position.

Screw out pressure regulator adjusting screw completely.

Connect compressed air to pressure regulator.

Screw in pressure regulator adjustment screw so that the pressure gauge reads the value applicable to the relevant engine, according to the table.

The three-way junction connector has a vent (drilled hole) where it connects to the pressure regulator to facilitate setting the correct pressure.

Engine Engine code Adjusting pressure

B5234T 57 12.5 kPa (1.8 psi)
B5234T3 53 30 kPa (4.4 psi)
B5234T4 50 12.5 kPa (1.8 psi
B5234T5 58 12.5 kPa (1.8 psi)
B5254T 56 18 kPa (2.6 psi)

Checking and adjusting 6

Push the boost pressure control (BPC) valve lever towards the turbocharger (TC) housing.

The boost pressure control (BPC) valve should be closed.

Check that the boost pressure control (BPC) valve spindle locates on the lever lug.

If necessary adjust boost pressure control (BPC) valve spindle until it locates.

Note!
The boost pressure control (BPC) valve spindle should be mounted on the lever when the lock-nut is adjusted. Twisting the boost pressure control (BPC) valve spindle will damage the diaphragm in the pressure regulator.

Reinstall/reconnect 7

- Install split pin in lever.

- Tighten lock-nut on boost pressure control (BPC) valve spindle.

- Remove lest equipment.

- Connect hose.

- Fresh air intake to air cleaner (ACL).

- Install heat shield.

Erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Test drive the car and check that no DTC:s have been stored.

WARRANTY STATEMENT: Warranty may be submitted under the new car factory warranty when there is a documented customer complaint, using claim type 01.
