RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS





The list of oils has been updated to reflect reformulation required for API-SJ. The oils listed below are recommended for use in all Volvo GASOLINE engines. This list will be reviewed periodically and updated accordingly.

Please note the viscosity, API Service Grade (SH), and the product name to ensure that the recommended product is being obtained. Also, the oils listed on page 1 are recommended, and dealers are highly encouraged to use the listed oils. However, for repairs covered by the Volvo new car warranty, ONLY a listed oil may be used.

Note:
SYNTHETIC OILS are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for vehicles operating in temperature extremes (very cold or very hot climates), continuous mountain driving, trailer pulling, and for turbocharged engines.

The use of 15W40 oil should be limited to engines in extreme duty. See SMB 17-4 dated December, 1990.

For diesel engines, please refer to the original owners' manual recommendations for correct viscosity. Use oils labeled API CG-4 and/or CF for the correct grade.
