Flow of Diagnosis
1. Read "Diagnostic Functions:
If you are unsure about the operation of the combined instrument panel or its components, read "Diagnostic Functions". Testing and Inspection
2. Read Service Precautions and Application and ID:
See Service Precautions, both Vehicle and Technician Safety Information and for the explanation of commonly used abbreviations and symbols see Diagnostic Procedure Symbols under "Procedures". Service Precautions
3. Fault-tracing Using the Volvo Scan Tool (ST):
- Read "How to Display and Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes."
- Read off and note diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and frozen values.
If communication with the Volvo Scan Tool (ST) cannot be established, see "Checking Control Module Communication" which can be found under "Diagnosis by Symptom".
Are one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored again?
- Yes: continue with step 4.
- No: continue with step 6.
4. DTC Table:
- Remedy diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) according to instructions in "Testing By Trouble Code" and then erase them.
- Ignition off.
- Test drive the car.
Have one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) been stored again?
- Yes: repeat step 4.
- No: continue with 5.
5. No Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Stored:
Do the fault symptoms persist?
- Yes: continue with step 6.
- No: continue with step 8.
6. Table of Symptoms:
- Select the appropriate fault symptoms in "Diagnosis By Symptom" and follow the relevant instructions.
- Test drive the car.
Do the fault symptoms persist?
- Yes: continue with step 7.
- No: continue with step 8.
7. Breakout Box and Parameter Tables:
- Connect the test box and take readings at all terminals in accordance with "Signal Description", which is located under "Breakout Box and Parameter Tables (Pin-Out)".
Then continue with step 8.
8. Final Check:
- Check that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been stored while fault-tracing other systems.
- Erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) before returning the car to the customer.
