Door Handle - Improving Cold Weather Operation

Door handle operation
(cold weather)

Background:

To improve door handle operation in cold climate conditions on some early S/70 V/70 models, the following information should be noted.

Remove door handle 1

Remove:





- 2 handle screws (A), Torx 30.

Slacken off lock screws (B), Torx 30.

Press the lock in as the handle is removed.

Remove lock cylinder 2





- Lift out the look facing.

- Push out lock cylinder from the back. The key is not required to do this.

Important!
When installing it the key should not be in the lock.

If the key is in the lock the lock cylinder may be installed in the wrong position.

Remove return spring 3





- Press the return spring tensioner downwards and to the side and allow it up through the groove.

- Remove return spring.

Remove rubber gasket 4

- Remove rubber gasket from door handle.

Remove cover from handle 5





- Move the handle towards the cover, then to the side then towards the cover again.

- Remove cover from door handle as arrowed in illustration.

File the drainage opening 6








- File a drainage opening in the handle grooves as illustrated.

- The groove should he modified on both sides of the handle.

- Polish the surfaces to facilitate water run off.

Reinstall components on handle 7

Install:





- cover on handle.

- rubber gasket on handle.

- return spring (bend down and to one side).

- lock cylinder (the key should not be in the lock).

- handle in door (press in lock at the same time and tighten lock screws (B), Torx 30).

- 2 handle screws (A), Torx 30.

- check lock function.

Front door outside handle





- The lock cylinder must be removed

- Adjust using a cross~head screwdriver

A design change to the door handle was introduced in production from the following chassis number;
