Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Adjustments






Checking/adjusting gear-shift position sensor

Special tools:
999 5475 GAUGE 999 5475 Gauge

Preparations




Make sure the gear shift is set to position N.
Remove:
- The battery
- The battery shelf
- Air intake manifold

Checking and adjusting

Check




Remove:
- Transmission cable from lever
- Lever.
Install tool 999 5475 GAUGE 999 5475 Gauge on gear shift linkage rod.
Check that shaft is in the N position.
The groove on the tool should align with the marking on the gear position sensor.

Adjustment




Remove:
- Dipstick pipe bracket
- Gear position sensor screws
Rotate the gear position sensor so that the mark on the switch aligns with the groove on the tool. Tighten sensor screws.
Tighten to: 25 Nm .





Reinstall bracket for dipstick pipe.
Make sure that the O-ring on the pipe is in place. Tighten to 25 Nm .
Install:
- Lever on gear shift linkage rod. Tighten to 16 Nm .
- Transmission cable on lever with a washer and retaining clip. Apply a little grease 1161241-3 to lever pin.





Install:
- Air intake manifold
- The battery shelf
- Battery. Connect cables

Checking diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Check and erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Check gear-shift position sensor positions using the on-board diagnostic (OBD) system.
