5th gear (5th)




When 5th gear is selected, the selector fork moves the 5th/reverse synchromesh sleeve (20) along the synchromesh hub towards the freely-rotating 5th gearwheel (21). The synchromesh sleeve and hub then lock the 5th gearwheel (21) on the upper layshaft (C).
From the clutch, power from the engine passes via the input shaft (2), 5th gear (10) on primary shaft (A) to the 5th gearwheel (21) on upper layshaft (C), the synchromesh unit and via the final drive pinion (6) to the final drive (5).
