2nd gear (2nd)




When 2nd gear is selected, the selector fork moves the 1st/2nd synchromesh sleeve (15) along the synchromesh hub towards the freely-rotating 2nd gearwheel (16). The synchromesh sleeve and hub then lock the 2nd gearwheel to the lower layshaft (B).
From the clutch, power from the engine passes via the input shaft (2) to the 2nd gear (9) and 2nd gearwheel (16), via the synchromesh unit and lower output shaft (B) to the final drive pinion (7) and final drive (5).
