Shift Interlock Cable: Adjustments






Key lock cable, adjusting

Preparations
Remove:
- The battery's minus cable.
- The center console. See Transmission cable, replacing Removal and Replacement.





Remove:
- The steering column covers
- The sound wall and knee protection under the dashboard
- Fold away the mat and remove the side panel.





Disconnect the cable from the ignition switch
- Move the gear shift lever to position P
- Turn the ignition key to position I or II
- Press together the shanks on the cable fastening in the ignition switch and pull out the cable.

Basic cable setting





Set the gear-shift lever in a position other than P.
The distance between the lever carrier on the cable's end piece should be about 7 mm. Adjust using the adjuster on the gear selector assembly.





Turn the ignition key to position I or II.
Secure the cable in the ignition switch.
Make sure the cable's locking lugs grip the ignition switch.
Move the gear-shift lever to the P-position. Check that the cable as 0.5-1.0 mm of play to the lever in the gear selector assembly.

Check the key lock function





Move the gear-shift to the P-position
The ignition key should be easy to remove from the ignition switch.
If not the cable is too short . Release a little using the adjuster on the gear selector assembly and check the function again.





Set the gear-shift lever in a position other than P.
The ignition key should not be easy to remove from the ignition switch.
If the key can be removed, the cable is too long . Tension a little using the adjuster on the gear selector assembly until the key cannot be removed.

Check the shift-lock override function




Move the gear shift lever to P-position and the ignition key in position I or II. Note! Do not press on the brake pedal.
Press the override button, it should be possible to move the lever from the P-position.
Move the gear shift lever to P-position. Remove the ignition key.
Press the override button. It should not be possible to move the lever from the P-position. The override function should only work with the ignition key in position I or II.

Adjust the shift-lock override function




If the gear-shift lever can be moved from the P-position with the ignition key removed:
- Turn the cable adjuster about 1 turn in the direction of the arrow. Check the function.
- If necessary, turn the cable adjuster another 1/2 turn in the direction of the arrow.

Finishing





Install the side panel and fold back the mat.
Install:
- Knee protection. Tighten the nuts to 20 Nm.
- The soundproofing panel
- The steering column covers
- The center console. See Transmission cable, replacing Removal and Replacement.
- The battery's minus cable.
