Sealing ring gear shift linkage rod, replacing

Special tools:
999 5476 PUNCH 999 5476 Punch

Removing the gear-shift position sensor

Preparations




Remove:
- The battery
- The air cleaner housing assembly
- Air intake manifold
- The battery shelf.
Remove:
- The bracket for the air cleaner (ACL) housing

Removal




Remove:
- Gear cable from the lever
- The lever
- The nut, lock washer and rubber seal from the gear-shift position sensor.
Loosen the bracket for the dipstick pipe.
Remove the two screws from the gear position sensor.
Carefully lift the sensor off the gear shift linkage rod.

Replacing the sealing ring on the gear shift linkage rod




Remove the old sealing ring using a small rounded screwdriver. Exercise care not to damage the linkage.
Install the new sealing ring. Apply ATF oil on the ring. Knock the ring in position using a drift 999 5476 PUNCH 999 5476 Punch.

Installing and adjusting the gear-shift sensor

Installation




Install the gear-shift sensor.
Tighten the sensor securing screws lightly.
Install the rubber washer, lock washer and the nut on the gear shift linkage rod connection.
Tighten the nut.
Lock the nut with the lock washer.

Adjustment




Adjust the gear-shift sensor according to Checking/adjusting gear-shift position sensor Adjustments.

Installation, cont.
Install:
- The bracket for the dipstick pipe. Ensure that the O-ring on the pipe is in position. Tighten with 25 Nm
- The lever on the gear shift linkage rod. Tighten to 16 Nm .
- Gear cable on the lever with washer and circlip. First apply a little grease 1161241-3 on the lever's spindle.

Installing engine compartment components




Install:
- The air filter bracket
- The battery shelf
- The air cleaner (ACL) housing assembly with the intake pipe.
- The battery. Connect the cables.

Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Check and erase any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
