Oil, quality check

Check the oil

Note! Use only automatic transmission fluid (ATF) which fulfills both Dexron II E and Ford Mercon standards.

Check the oil by taking a sample with the dipstick.
Is the oil discolored or does it smell burnt?
- Check if the on-board diagnostic (OBD) unit has registered the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) AT-235 (2 - 3 - 5).
- Smell the oil if diagnostic trouble code (DTC) AT- 235 (2 - 3 - 5) is displayed.
- Also fault-trace the transmission according to diagnostic trouble code (DTC) AT-235 (2 - 3 - 5).
- Change oil.
Is there water in the oil (gray discoloration)?
- Determine the cause of the water in the oil.
- Replace transmission:
- For gasoline engines see Gearbox/torque converter, replacing .
- For diesel engines see.
- Flush oil cooler, pipes and oil hoses:
- For gasoline engines see Cleaning and inspection Cleaning and Inspection.
- For diesel engines see Cleaning and inspection Cleaning and Inspection.
