DRIVER POWER SEAT HARNESS
1
Remove
Note!
These procedures assume that the driver's power seat was removed in accordance with Campaign 95C Checking / Replacing insulation mats, Service Bulletin 84-0018.
If seat is still mounted in vehicle, refer to Service Bulletin 84-0018 for removal instructions.
Note!
The following steps must be performed ONLY to the driver's seat.
2
Check wire harness / Install hose
Inspect harness to ensure there is no chafing or/and cuts or nicks to the wires in the harness.
If any repair is needed, repair must be performed as per Service manual TP 3701011, Wire repair and replacing terminals, or VADIS.
Cut a 300 mm (12") length of Packard hose. Wrap it around the harness wire (1) from the carpet of the harness connectors. If the Packard hose is shorter than the harness wire, start wrapping at the carpet, and leave the connector end section unwrapped as shown.
Secure the Packard hose with three pieces of electrical tape (2) as per illustration.
3
Apply felt tape
Apply the sheet felt tape (1) around the full length of the Packard hose as per illustration and secure it with electrical tape (2).
Caution!
The felt tape seam (3) must face toward front of car so that the seam will not be disturbed by motion of seat. Seam must not face down or up or toward back of car.
4
Secure harness wire to carpet
Make two small slits in the carpet so one strip clamp without anchor can be fastened through the carpet (1). These slits are to be made left of the right-hand seat track. Measured from center of front screw hole, A = 6O mm (2 3/8") and B = 60 mm (2 3/8").
Secure the wire harness to the carpet with a strip clamp.
5
Test seat travel
Position the seat correctly within the vehicle, without securing it.
Reattach the harness connectors to the seat. Tie-strap (1) the harness wire to the seat frame, see illustration.
Use the seat controls to move the seat to its forward most position while listening for any friction noise between the seat motor and the harness wire.
If friction noise is heard, correct tension of the strip clamp until noise is no longer heard.
6
Install seat
Before installing seat:
Follow the steps below and do not divert from the order in which they are presented or seat frame may warp.
First install the right rear attachment bolt for the right hand track finger tight.
Install the two attachment bolts in the front of each seat track. Torque to 40 Nm (30 Lbs.).
Install left rear bolt for the track, and torque (both) rear attachment bolts for the tracks to 40 Nm (30 Lbs.)
Remove transport safety device from the sensor module and return it to its storage place.
Install the power seat control panel and secure it with a new tie-strap.
Perform a function test of the seat and make sure the harness under the seat is not making any noise while the seat is moved in its full travel.
Install seat belt loop on the slide bar, ensuring the belt is turned correctly so that belt reels in/out properly.
Reinstall seat belt slide bar. Torque bolt to 48 Nm (35 Lb.).
