Checking/Replacing Insulation MATS

Remove





Remove rear seat cushion. Pull up front edge of seat at outboard positions as shown.

Remove





Remove:

- Center cushion armrest (1), by pulling it straight out. Release the retaining strap catch.

- Backrest retaining nuts at bottom of backrest (2).

- Headrests. Grab base of backrest cushion and tilt up slightly. Slide arm behind backrest and release the two locking tabs (4). Lift out headrest.

Hint: A second technician may be needed to pull out headrests while locking tabs are being released.

- Backrest cushion, by lifting straight up.

Note!
Backrest cushion and headrest removal are necessary for completion of quarter-glass seal method in Campaign 95F Service Bulletin 89-0005.

Remove rear seat cushion anchors





Starting at one end, carefully pry up rear seat cushion anchors with two flat blade screwdrivers.

Warning!
Anchorage may break during removal.CLEAN OUT ANY DEBRIS THAT FALLS INTO THE CROSS-BRACE. OTHERWISE THIS DEBRIS MAY RATTLE WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION.

Check rear insulation mat





Feel under insulation mat (2).

Definition of amount of wetness / moisture





A If drops of water can be squeezed from mat foam, the mat is WET. Replace insulation mat.

B If the foam of the insulation mat is moist to the touch and no water is visible on the palm of the hand, but only moist, the mat is DAMP. Dry insulation mat.

C If insulation mat has a bad odor, replace insulation mat.

If wet





Remove four bolts and slightly raise the back of the center console.

Remove the wet insulation mat.

Dry floor thoroughly.

Install a new insulation mat.

Note!
If drops or water can be squeezed from mat foam, or if a mat has an odor, the mat is wet.

If damp

Dry out the floor with a rag or paper as much as possible.

Lift the insulation mat from the floor enough so that air can circulate. Use a fan to dry out the floor and insulation.

If dry, or after completing the above:

Remove driver's side front seat

Note!
Front drivers's seat must be removed to replace wet center or front mats, and to prepare for driver's power seat harness upgrade described in Campaign 95D: Service Bulletin 37-0004. Front passenger's seat may also need to be removed if passenger's side mats are wet, as explained later in this method.





Remove:

- cover over seat belt slide bar, one bolt

- attachment bolt with washer and spacer sleeve

- seat belt from slide bar

- the seat belt slide bar and set aside.

Remove power seat control panel





Remove:

- the screw (1).

- the panel as per illustration.

Install transport safety cap

Installing the SIPS airbag transport safety device.

Warning!
Seats with SIPS airbag must always have the transport safety device installed in order to avoid accidentally activating the system when working on the seat.





Remove the transport safety device from its holder on the inside of the panel.

Install the transport safety device on the sensor module.

Remove





Remove:

- cover panels over attachment bolts for seat tracks.

- bolts for seat tracks.

Preparation for seat removal





Tilt seat to gain access

Adjust seat back to its most forward position.

Tilt entire seat backward as shown.

Cut off the strip clamps on the harness clips in the seat bottom.

Separate the harness connectors from seat.

Remove





Remove seat from vehicle and set aside.

Check rear passenger foot-well and front insulation mats





Check for wet or damp front and center mats on both sides of vehicle. Inspect all reachable areas thoroughly by sliding hand and arm under carpets and mats.

IF any mat on passenger's side is damp or wet, remove front passenger's seat as described for drivers's seat, and perform the following steps for passenger's side of vehicle.

IF driver's side mats are also damp or wet, also perform the following steps on the driver's side of the vehicle.

Damp rear passenger foot-well mat

Raise foot-well carpet and mat





Remove two clips (1) and take out AC floor vent louver (2).

Remove two carpet clips (3).

Pull carpet free of side moldings.

Fold foot-well carpet over center console.

Raise foot-well insulation mat to allow air to circulate under it.

Use a fan to dry the floor and underside of foot-well mat.

Wet rear passenger foot-well mat

Raise foot-well carpet





Remove two clips (1) and take out AC floor vent louver (2).

Remove two carpet clips (3).

Pull carpet free of side moldings.

Fold foot-well carpet over center console.

Remove foot-well mat.

Dry floor thoroughly.

Lay out the new foot-well mat on a flat cutting surface.

Lay old foot-well mat on top of new mat. Align openings and rear edges of the mats.

Scribe a line across the front edge of the new mat.

Cut the new mat on the scribed line.

Install newly cut rear-center mat section.

Damp front foot-well mat





Remove front carpet panel

Pull carpet panel free of side moldings.

Remove carpet from vehicle and set aside. Raise front insulation mat to allow air to circulate under it.

Use fan to dry the floor and underside of insulation mat.

Wet front foot-well mat

Remove front carpet panel

Pull carpet panel free of side moldings.

Remove carpet from vehicle and set aside.

Remove kick panel





Carefully remove inner panel (1).

Location of Template

Note!
The instruction applies to both right and left hand side.

Carefully lift air duct (1) as high as possible without detaching it from its attachment points. (Applies to both right and left hand side).





DRIVER SIDE FOOT WELL: Place the appropriate template in the foot well, see illustration.

Adjust the template so that the "X" on the template is positioned in the left rear corner of the foot well, close to the inner rocker panel.

PASSENGER SIDE FOOT WELL: Place the appropriate template in the foot well, see illustration.

Adjust the template so that the "X" on the template is positioned in the right rear corner of the foot well, close to the inner rocker panel.

Secure template with staples or tacks so that it sits flush against insulation mat and cannot shift.

Replace wet front foot-well mat (partial)





Note!
Cut out wet insulation mat with utility knife. Hold knife straight up in a 90-degree angle from insulation mat surface. This is to ensure a snug fit of the new insulation mat when installed.

Caution!
Cut ONLY through the rubber backing (1/8") of the insulation mat around the "cut" line marked on the template.

Lift up the insulation mat and cut through the foam part. Be sure not to cut the floor pan. Remove the wet insulation mat.

Thoroughly dry floor with rags and fan. Install new insulation mat. Ensure correct fit of the new insulation mat, adjust if necessary.

Note!
If replacement panel is not a snug fit, till perimeter gaps with leftover strips of rear foot-well mat.

Install Front passenger's Seat Only

Perform this step if front passenger's seat was removed. Otherwise, go to Campaign 95D Driver Power Seat Harness, Service Bulletin 37-0004.

Before installing front passenger's seat

Follow the steps below and do not divert from the order in which they are presented in, or seat frame may be warped

Reconnect the wire harness to the seat and secure it with a tie-strap.

Position seat correctly on the floorboard.

Verify the position of the harness . Make sure the harness does not chafe and is not pinched at any part under the seat.





First install the left rear attachment bolt for the left hand track finger tight.

Install the two attachment bolts in the front of each seat track. Torque to 40 NM (30 Lbs.).

Install right rear bolt for the track, and torque (both) rear attachment bolts for the tracks to 40 NM (30 Lbs.).

Remove transport safety device from the sensor module and return it to its storage place.

Install the power seat control panel and secure it with a new tie-strap.

Perform a function test of the seat and make sure the harness under the seat is not making any noise while the seat is moved in its full travel.

Install seat belt loop on the slide bar, ensuring the belt is turned correctly so that belt reels in/out properly.

Reinstall seat belt slide bar. Torque bolt to 48 NM (35 Lbs.).

Install all remaining removed panels and clips in a reverse order.

Proceed with Campaign 95D Driver Power Seat Harness, Service Bulletin 37-0004
