Cowl, sealing seam
Background:
Because of missing putty in the joint between the cowl and engine compartment side walls, water can enter into passenger compartment.

Preparations
Open hood to straight up position as per illustration.

Remove
Remove:
- cap and nuts for wiper arm
- both wiper arms (1)
- the two clamps of the drain hoses(3)
- five screws holding the drain pan to the cowl
- cowl drain pan (2).

Apply sealant
Use cleaner H to clean the area to be sealed (1).
Seal the shaded area (1) with a thin layer of liquid butyl. Avoid getting butyl on visible parts of the engine compartment wall.
30 minutes later, seal shaded area (1) thoroughly with auto bedding and glazing compound. Overlap the liquid butyl at least 1/4" over all sides with auto bedding and glazing compound.

Apply electrical tape
To keep the cowl drain pan from sticking to the butyl when reinstalled, apply electrical tape (1) over the Uncured butyl on top of inner wheel housing.
Repeat steps on other side of vehicle.

Reinstall the removed parts in reverse order. Torque nut for wiper arm 15 Nm (10 Lb.)
