Volvo Guard Alarm (VGLA)

Volvo Guard Alarm (VGLA)

The VGLA has a number of new and modified functions.

Interlock
The function is found in cars with manual transmission and has the task of preventing the engine from starting if the clutch pedal is not depressed. When clutch pedal is depressed a signal is sent from the clutch pedal position sensor via the engine control module (ECM) to the VGLA, which permits start or not.
The function is market dependent, USA/CDN.

Unlock function in event of airbag deployment
The task of the function is to unlock the central locking system if it has been activated by any of the internal lock switches.
When the SRS control module sends a signal to deploy the airbags a signal is also sent to the central locking system control module which unlocks all the doors and the trunk lid/tailgate.

Tilt sensor
New version with built in self diagnostic, a new diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been introduced. (Old and new sensors are not interchangeable).

Control module
Two new diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are introduced and two old ones have new conditions and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) numbers. (This applies to cars built from and including W740). Note! When replacing the control module the Immo-VGLA code must be programmed in.

Emergency start (override)
The function is used if there is a fault with the remote control, poor batteries for example.
New method as follows:
- Unlock the driver's door with the door key and open it.
- The alarm is set off.
- Insert key into ignition switch and start the car.
- The alarm is deactivated.
The number of times this function can be used is limited.
The function is standard/optional depending on the market.
